Popular MA Pizzeria Named Best 'Hidden Gem' In The State

Takeout Media picked one pizza business from each state in its latest ranking.

MASSACHUSETTS — A Newton pizzeria was recognized as the best of its kind in the state.

Takeout Media picked one spot from each state as the best “hole-in-the-wall,” and Jinny’s on 1231 Centre St. made the cut for Massachusetts. Lydia Reichert opened the business in March of 2021 along with partners David Punch and Shane Symth. The chef named the restaurant after her grandmother.

“Jinny was larger than life; always ready for a boisterous dinner party, an elaborate story, a friendly debate, a cutthroat card game, and to welcome a new face as a dear friend,” Reichert said. “She was the eternal host, keeping everyone involved, entertained and well fed. It was at my grandparents' dining room table that I came to appreciate how good food, a friendly atmosphere, and a few cocktails can turn any day into a festive holiday.”

Jinny’s is known for its wood-fired oven that heats up to 700 degrees, named “Dottie McLovin.” Its menu includes a wide variety of pizza types and toppings, along with other offerings like chicken-pecorino meatballs and chicken wings.

“Orders here include red and white pies, and range from classics, like the Margherita, to more playful combos, like Spring Thyme with asparagus and ricotta or the Maui Waui with roasted pineapple and prosciutto,” Takeout wrote about Jinny’s menu.

Reichert said consistency and a good work ethic is what has earned Jinny’s its reputation during the last five years.

“We’re a small business and a small restaurant. We definitely can’t crank out pizzas like Domino’s does and promise everybody something in 20 minutes,” Reichert told Patch. “But I think that’s because we try to put a lot of quality and care into every ingredient and everything that we do.”
