2 MA Bars Rank Among North America’s Top 100, New List Says

BOSTON, MA — Two Bay State bars are shaking up the scene after being named among the top 100 in North America.

Hecate Bar and The Wig Shop came in as some of the best 100 bars in the region, according to 50 Best's North America's 50 Best Bars 2026 list. The annual, globally recognized list ranks top-tier venues across the continent.

50 Best released an extended list of its favorite bars on Tuesday, revealing the spots ranked No. 51 to 100. The extended list comes from votes cast by the "voting academy," more than 300 independent cocktail experts, renowned bartenders, educators and drink writers from across the region.

Hecate Bar came in at No. 88. It's a speakeasy in Back Bay at 48 Gloucester St, below the Greek restaurant and wine bar Krasi, which has an intimate setting with only 24 seats.

The bar "leans into all things mystical through a fantastical drinks list delivered with theatrical presentations that feel fitting to its surrounds," 50 Best said.

A short drive away, The Wig Shop, at 27 Temple Pl, is a popular cocktail bar near the Boston Common. Hidden behind what looks like an actual wig shop, the store served a former life as a spot for hairpieces and costumes for decades.

At The Wig Shop, which came in at No. 86, you can "expect glitzy interiors and a joyfully exuberant food and drink offering," 50 Best said.
