Andover Awarded $500K Grant For Sidewalk Project

The project will improve pedestrian access to a rail station, fire station, and playground.

ANDOVER, MA — The town has been awarded a $499,971 state grant through the Mass Department of Transportation Complete Streets Funding Program.

The funds are to build a new sidewalk on Tewksbury Street.

The nearly 2,000-foot sidewalk runs from Yardley Road to Oak Street. The project will improve pedestrian access to the Ballardvale Commuter Rail Station, Ballardvale Playground, and Ballardvale Fire Station, according to the town.

This is the first Complete Streets construction grant Andover has received, and it comes "as the direct result of the Town's hard work completing the Complete Streets Prioritization Plan in 2024, a process that involved in-depth analysis of our pedestrian network and significant input from the community," according to the town.

"This project reflects the Town's broader commitment to making Andover more walkable and connected for residents of all ages and abilities, and is just one of several pedestrian improvements on the horizon," the town wrote on Facebook.
