Andover School Committee Approves Lunch Price Increases
The hike includes breakfast and snack prices, and comes after the committee approved an increase in athletic fees.

ANDOVER, MA -- The Andover School Committee approved an increase in breakfast, lunch and snack prices last month to cover rising food service employee insurance and wage costs. The price increases ranges from 15 cents in elementary and middle school lunches to 35 cents for an adult lunch. The increase is the first in four years, according to Andover School Nutrition Program Director Gail Koutroubas.
The food services department is facing a $27,000 increase for employee health insurance. The department also had to increase starting wages for employees to $13.50 per hour after being unable to find people to take the three-hour, mid-day shifts for $11 per hours. "And that's before taxes," Koutroubas said.
