Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) President John Maeda will talk about the importance of adding art and design to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education and research to create STEAM.
Maeda believes that "art and design are poised to transform our economy in the 21st century like science and technology did in the last century.
A former professor at Masasachusetts Institute of Technology, Maeda taught media arts and sciences and served as assoicate director of research at the MIT Media Lab. In 2010, Forbes magazine called him the "Steve Jobs of Academia' and in 2008 he was named as one of the 75 most influencial people in the 21st century by Esquire magazine.
