Snow Removal Costs Exceed Budgeted Amount by $1 Million

Andover has submitted documentation to the state for consideration of possible financial assistance.

The historic snowfall this winter in such a short period of time definitely took its toll on snow removal budgets in Massachusetts.

Andover has spent approximately $2.3 million for snow removal costs this winter, according to Sandy Gerraughty, Andover’s Business Manager, Department of Municipal Services.

Andover budgeted $1,247,000 for snow removal in the Fiscal Year 2015 budget.

Andover has submitted to Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency for the town’s Initial Damage Assessment for approximately $1.8 Million for four weeks of consecutive storms. MEMA requested a multitude of municipalities’ assistance in gathering additional cost data to help document the cumulative impacts of these storms to make the strongest case possible for additional federal disaster assistance.

Reimbursement for these storms is not finalized or authorized at this point in time, according to Gerraughty.
