Three Arson Fires; Authorities Seeking the Public's Help

Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe announced Monday that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for at least three fires in Andover over the last month.

Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriting Association offers such rewards through the Arson Watch Reward Program, in partnership with the Andover Police Department, Andover Fire Chief Michael B. Mansfield and the Andover Fire Department.

“Intentionally set fires damage property, harm communities, and could injure or kill residents, business owners, and the emergency responders who have to deal the them,” Chief Keefe said. “We are proud of our partnerships in Andover and statewide that allow us to offer a financial reward for any information that puts a stop to these extraordinary dangerous actions. If you know something, please come forward. All tips may be kept anonymous.”

Police are seeking the person or persons responsible for three intentionally-set fires in Andover.

The first two fires were set on Nov. 24. The first fire was reported on South Main Street in a three bay garage at 5:34 p.m. The second call came in for another garage, this time on Punchard Avenue, at 7:11 p.m. The third fire was reported on Dec. 4 at 6:57 p.m. in a shed on School Street.

Andover Police Detective David Milne and Andover Deputy Fire Chief Al Deldotto are investigating the fires along with the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The Arson Watch Reward Program offers confidential rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for intentionally set fires or explosions in Massachusetts. Any person who plans or commits the crime of arson in Massachusetts to include possession of materials used in preparation of an infernal machine, or causing an explosion is included in the Arson Watch Reward Program.

“Someone out there knows who set these fires. We are asking you to come forward, anonymously, so that we can put a stop to this before someone gets hurt or killed,” said Andover Police Commander Charles Heseltine. “Your tips could save a life.”
