YWCA of Greater Lawrence Receives Donald E. Garrant Foundation Award
The YWCA of Greater Lawrence has received a grant from The Donald E. Garrant Foundation of The Savings Bank to provide support to the YWCA Fina House Budget Buddies Program. The grant was presented as part of the annual distribution of funds by the Donald E. Garrant Foundation of The Savings Bank to enhance financial education and financial literacy in communities served by the Bank. The funds augment efforts that focus on money, banking, borrowing, investing, and economics. Since its inception, the Donald E. Garrant Foundation has awarded a total of $120,000 to schools, libraries and organizations in several communities, including Lawrence, Wakefield, Andover, Danvers, Malden and North Reading. The YWCA Fina House Budget Buddy Program provides money management education to low income women and YWCA Fina House residents to help build their confidence and improve their money management skills. Established in 2001, the Foundation was created to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the opening of the 1st Educational Savings Branch at Wakefield High School in memory of Donald Garrant who served as Bank President from 1981 to 1992.
