In these times of turmoil around the Globe and here at home, it is more important than ever to recognize those individuals and organizations who make an impact on the lives of our children and make our world a better place. We invite you to participate in this endeavor by nominating a person or group for the Faulkner Award.

Since its modest beginning in1937, the mission of the Arlington Boys & Girls Club has continued on for six decades and remained unchanged: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those from challenging circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Beginning in 1965, the Club has honored an adult member or organization within our community whose dedication, vision and service to youth fulfill its Mission Statement.

The background of past Faulkner Award candidates include participants as volunteers for local sports teams, churches, Arlington Public School programs, and various youth based groups or non-profit organizations. Last year’s Faulkner recipients were Food Link, an Arlington home grown, non-profit group which rescues food and nourishes the surrounding communities, and Henry Brush of the Arlington Youth Soccer Club.

On May 3, 2016 the Arlington Boys & Girls Club will continue the tradition of bestowing the Faulkner award and invites the community to attend its Annual Meeting Dinner at the Boston Marriott Burlington. This special evening showcases what the Club means to many in our community and also honors outstanding youth in our community as well.

Last year the Club awarded the Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year Award to Courteney Dorcena for her outstanding service to the Club’s community and Franceso Drake and Tano Mejia for their outstanding service to the youth of Arlington. Francesco was best known for his dedication to the ABGC swim team, boating program and his academic achievements at Commonwealth H.S. in Boston. Tano Mejia was honored for his level of commitment to the Arlington Youth Soccer Club and his academic achievements at A.H.S and for pursing his passion in politics as a Model Congress and Model United Nations Member.
