Arlington Elementary School Receives State Recognition

The school was named a 2025 School of Recognition for its academic focus and progress.

ARLINGTON, MA — An elementary school was recognized with a prestigious state award this week.

The Cyrus E. Dallin Elementary School at 185 Florence Ave. was named a 2025 School of Recognition by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The schools are selected by the DESE on an annual basis as part of its accountability reporting process. One component that is weighed heavily in the process is whether the school has an emphasis on improved achievement in English language arts and mathematics.

According to the public school district, Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Homan and Principal Thad Dingman attended the recognition ceremony at the Massachusetts State House recently. While Dallin was the only Arlington school recognized, more than 50 institutions across the state received the award for 2025.

The Dallin School first opened its doors more than 70 years ago. In 2006, the school building was fully rebuilt and modernized. It is named after the world-famous 19th century sculptor who lived in the town for more than 40 years and is the artist behind Boston’s Paul Revere statue and the Appeal to the Great Spirit statue that stands outside the Museum of Fine Arts. Dallin also has works on display in Philadelphia, Utah, and Chicago according to the school. His Arlington home, located at 69 Oakland Ave., remains a private residence. In addition, The Cyrus Dallin Art Museum is located on 611 Massachusetts Ave. in Arlington.

The Burr, Ward, and Williams Elementary Schools of neighboring Newton were also a part of the 2025 Schools of Recognition Roster.
