Arlington Man Arrested for Armed Breaking and Entering, Assault of Woman: Police
Police say a witness was able to restrain the suspect until police arrived

ARLINGTON, MA — An Arlington man was arrested Wednesday in connection with an armed breaking and entering in Arlington, according to police.

Police Chief Frederick Ryan announced Wednesday that police responded to a Ridge Street residence for a report of a woman being assaulted by a man with a knife at 11:52 a.m. earlier in the day. An officer working detail in the area arrived on scene and arrested Joseph Dealmeida, 26, of Arlington, according to police.

Police say that a witness heard the woman's call for help and was able to restrain Dealmeida until police arrived.
“This was a dangerous situation in which a suspect with a weapon was attempting to harm an individual,” Ryan said in a statement. “Thanks to the quick response by this officer who was conducting traffic detail nearby, this suspect was apprehended safely and no one was injured.”

Dealmeida was charged with breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault. He is currently being held at the Arlington Police Department pending arraignment in Cambridge District Court.
