Arlington Man Arrested with Illegal Gun at Silver Line Bus Shelter

The man was charged with the illegal possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, among other charges.

ARLINGTON, MA—An Arlington man was arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm Monday night, according to a release from the MBTA Transit Police Department.

Police arrested Eric Higgins, 39, of Arlington after officers seized a firearm and determined that he was not licensed to carry the weapon. Officers also seized a dirk knife from Higgins.

At 9 p.m. Monday night, officers noticed Higgins loitering in a bus shelter in the area of Washington and East Lenox St. along the Silver Line. Officers later approached Higgins, instructing him not to loiter in the bus shelters.

An officer noticed a firearm which was sitting directly under the bench that Higgins had been sitting in. Officers seized the gun, and placed Higgins under arrest after determining that he was not duly licensed.

Higgins was charged with the illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a dangerous weapon (the dirk knife).

Higgins is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Roxbury District Court.
