Medford Police Make Arrest In Connection With Stolen Church Donation Case

MEDFORD, MA — A man accused of stealing nearly $2,000 from donation boxes at two Medford churches over the course of a month was arrested Sunday, according to police.

Michael Bagley, 60, was identified on Sunday by Medford Police detectives as the suspect in a series of thefts at St. Joseph’s Parish and St. Francis Church. Police said the investigation began after the department received a report on Monday, June 15, that a man had been entering both churches following Sunday services and taking money from donation boxes.

Parish officials reviewed surveillance footage dating back to May 19 and determined that Bagley allegedly stole nearly $2,000 over the course of one month, according to police. Detectives also learned that he had allegedly committed similar thefts in several surrounding communities.

Detectives located Bagley in downtown Medford at approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday as he was heading toward St. Joseph’s Parish following Sunday services.

Bagley was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant charging him with six counts each of larceny from a building, breaking into a depository and possession of burglarious instruments.

He is expected to be arraigned in Somerville District Court on Monday.
