ARLINGTON, MA—Arlington’s in for a deep freeze this weekend, and residents should take appropriate precautions.

Arlington is set to see a low of -8 degrees Sunday and a low of -4 degrees on Saturday. With that in mind, Arlington Police have shared tips from State Trooper Dustin Fitch about how to handle this weekend’s frigid temperatures.

The tips are as follows:

  • Check on elderly neighbors
  • Check your home’s heating fuel
  • If you lose heat, seal off unused rooms with blankets and towels
  • Dress in layers
  • Keep outdoor activities to a minimum
  • Beware of frostbite; loss of feeling in fingertips can be a symptom
  • Keep your vehicle fuel tank at least half full
  • Have spare batteries
  • Watch for freezing pipes in your home, let water trickle if needed to prevent it.
  • Keep mobile devices charged
  • Bring pets indoors. They can get frostbite and hypothermia too.
