Water Main Break Prompts Emergency Water Shutoff In Arlington

Water shut off in East Arlington.

ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington DPW is about to shut off the water again for about 30 minutes this afternoon. Town officials say it's for the same area affected this morning in East Arlington, where a water main break prompted an emergency water shut off in East Arlington.

Water in East Arlington (homes and businesses east of Pleasant St & Mystic St) will be shut off at 3:45 p.m. for approx. 30-45 mins for emergency maintenance related to the water main break this morning, town officials said.

"If you experience discolored water in your home or business, run the faucets until you have clean water. Do not run your hot water or do laundry until your water is clear," town officials posted to the Arlington town website.

At approximately 8 a.m this morning, a water main broke near the intersection of Route 2 and Pleasant Street, according to town hall.

A main valve was temporarily closed to isolate the break, having a broad impact on water service in Town, particularly in East Arlington. Water pressure has since been restored to the system, but intermittent disruptions to service may occur while Arlington Public Works and Massachusetts Water Resource Authority work to locally isolate and repair the leak.
