Police report that a 26-year-old Fall River woman stands accused of manipulating an Arlington man out of approximately $20,000 over the course of a year.

Sheena Moss, a resident of Carter Street in Fall River, was charged with attempt to commit a crime following her arrest on Friday, March 13. A charge of larceny by false pretense has been sought by police in light of a similar incident that occurred in January.

According to authorities, they received a call regarding a possible breaking and entering at 2:12 p.m. at 335 Lake St. Upon arrival, they discovered the home’s owner being escorted to a vehicle in the driveway, which was occupied by Moss and two associates.

Moss told police that they were there to take the resident to the bank to get $500, in order to rent him a 2013 Volvo Cross Country, currently located at her sister’s house. Letting him borrow the car, she allegedly told police, was indented as a gesture to compensate for totaling a car he previously owned.

The resident, police say, was under the impression the $500 would buy, not rent, the car, which he had been told was parked in a tow yard. Both parties confirmed that the resident had lent Moss money in the past, none of which had been paid back.

Shortly thereafter, police contacted the resident’s son, who deftly noted, “There is no way you can buy a 2013 Volvo for $500,” and explained that Moss had tricked his father in similar fashions several times in the past. The son told police that Moss and his father had lived together on a provisional, inconsistent basis, and he suspected her of conning and stealing a grand total of approximately $20,000 from her on-again, off-again roommate.

Moss was arrested promptly after that conversation.
