Former Arlington Middle School T.A. Charged With Statutory Rape

A Woburn man who once worked as a teaching assistant at Ottoson Middle School in Arlington has been charged with the aggravated statutory rape of a former student, according to a statement from the Arlington Police Department.

The 36-year-old James Henry Martin III was arrested Thursday, March 5, without incident.

Authorities say Martin met the victim, who was less than 16 years old at the time, during his tenure at Ottoson. After interacting through what police describe as a “mobile phone-based social media service,” Martin and the victim agreed to meet in January of 2014.

During the meeting, police say Martin sexually assaulted the victim in a parking lot, then left the victim at a restaurant.
