I-95, Route 2 Interchange Subject to Rolling Roadblocks Monday, Tuesday

LEXINGTON, MA—The Route 2 bridges project is nearly completed, but motorists will be facing yet another set of roadblocks on the interchange.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation,  overnight “rolling roadblocks” will be in effect on I-95 North on Monday, May 23, and on I-95 South on Tuesday, May 24. Multiple lane and ramp closures will be in place from 8:00 p.m. each night to 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

The work will allow the contractor to remove steel beams from the old Route 2 West Bridge. 

Here are some detours from MassDOT:

I-95 North Detours

• Route 2 East to I-95 North Detour - Follow Route 2 East past I-95, take Exit 53 to Spring Street, turn right onto Spring Street and cross over Route 2, turn right onto Hayden Avenue and turn right onto the on-ramp to Route 2 West. From Route 2 West, take Exit 52B onto I-95 North.
• I-95 North to Route 2 West Detour - From I-95 North, take Exit 29A for Route 2 East. Take Exit 53 for Spring Street, turn right onto Spring Street, and cross over Route 2. Turn right onto Hayden Avenue and then turn right onto the on-ramp to Route 2 West.
• Alternate Detour Route for I-95 North to Route 2 West - Follow I-95 North past Route 2, take Exit 30A-B for Route 2A, and keep left for Exit 30B to Route 2A West. From Route 2A West, immediately take the exit for I-95 South and then take Exit 29B for Route 2 West.

I-95 South Detours

• Route 2 West to I-95 South Detour - Follow Route 2 West past I-95 to just past Bedford Road and use the existing exit (signs for Bedford Road/Lincoln) to reverse direction. At the traffic signal, turn left onto Route 2 East and then take Exit 52A onto I-95 South.
• I-95 South to Route 2 East Detour - Follow I-95 South past Route 2 and take Exit 28 for Trapelo Road. Turn left onto Trapelo Road and then turn right onto the on-ramp to I-95 North. Follow I-95 North and take Exit 29A to Route 2 East.
