ICYMI: Arlington Police Release 2014 Crime Statistics

Police say 2014 was a safer year than 2013.

Overall, crime decreased in Arlington during 2014, according to statistics released by the Arlington Police Department.

The town saw an especially noteworthy decline in burglaries, with the 61 instances reported not quite equaling half of 2013’s 130 burglaries. The grand total of “part 1 crimes” - a term encompassing murder/manslaughter, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, arson, and motor vehicle theft - fell from 592 in 2013 to 444 in 2014.

No murders occurred in 2014 Arlington, while three did in 2013. Last year saw an increase in rapes, with nine reported in 2014, compared to seven in 2013. Nine robberies took place in 2014, next to 10 in 2013. Aggravated assault went up, from 32 such attacks reported in 2013, to 42 in 2014.

Larcenies dropped from 381 in 2013 to 307 in 2014, and motor vehicle theft saw a significant decrease with 26 cars pilfered in 2013, compared to 14 in 2014.
