ICYMI: Man Charged after Crashing Into Arlington Utility Pole
The accident caused parts of Pleasant St. to be closed for more than eight hours Tuesday.

ARLINGTON, MA—Pleasant St. in Arlington was closed for nearly eight hours Tuesday when a ford truck crashed into a utility pole, and the driver of the truck is now facing charges.
Police announced Wednesday afternoon that they have charged an unnamed 45-year-old man with operating under the influence of drugs and operating to endanger. Police said that the operator showed signs of opiate use and may have been overdosing.

“Unfortunately, this individual’s reckless actions created a potentially dangerous situation for himself, other operators and pedestrians,” Chief Frederick Ryan said in a statement. “Thanks to the quick response from emergency responders, no one else was injured and this man received immediate medical attention.”
The driver was driven to Mount Auburn Hospital after the accident, and Pleasant St. was later closed between Massachusetts Ave. and Concord Turnpike for eight hours. The man will be summonsed to Cambridge District Court.
