LATEST FORECAST: Two Feet of Snow Possible in Greater Boston

UPDATED at 5:06 p.m. Saturday: The National Weather Service is now predicting that as much as two feet of snow may fall in Greater Boston, the North Shore, Merrimack Valley, MetroWest and Northeast Massachusetts from Saturday to Tuesday.

The latest NWS forecast shows those areas are expected to get 18-24 inches of snow.

Central Massachusetts and most of the South Shore may get 14-18 inches of snow with much less expected on Cape Cod and the Islands.

The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 10 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Here’s the latest forecast from The Weather Channel:

Saturday night: Snow showers overnight with 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.

Sunday: Snow with 3 to 5 inches likely.

Sunday night: Snow will intensify overnight with 5 to 8 inches possible by Monday morning.

Monday: More snow with 5 to 8 inches possible.

Monday night: Snow will taper off and end overnight.

Tuesday: Snow showers possible with highs in the 20s.

Here we go again. For the third straight week, Massachusetts is hunkering down for a potentially major snowfall.

More than a foot-and-a-half of snow may fall on portions on Massachusetts between Saturday and Tuesday.

Though the snow isn’t expected to fall as hard as in the Blizzard of 2015 or the Groundhog Day storm, the four-day event will make travel treacherous at times.

A foot of snow is expected to fall on parts of Massachusetts on Monday alone and will likely lead to more school cancellations.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 1 a.m. Sunday through 1 a.m. Tuesday. The NWS said hazardous driving conditions are “expected during this long duration event… Blowing and drifting snow likely by Monday yielding poor visibility at times.”

Here is what 7News’ Chris Lambert is predicting:

• Saturday: Afternoon and early evening snow showers may bring up to 1 inch of snow. Steadier snow should begin by 10 p.m., which will mean another 1 to 3 inches by Sunday morning.
• Sunday: Intermittent snow with the heaviest seen in Northern Massachusetts. Snowfall amounts are expected to be 6 inches in Northern Massachusetts, 3-6 inches near the Mass Pike and 1 to 3 inches in Southeast Massachusetts. Snow will intensify overnight into Monday.
• Monday: Steady snow with 8-14 inches possible in Northern Massachusetts, Greater Boston and parts of the South Shore. Lesser amounts are expected inland.
• Tuesday: The snow should be over after dumping as much as 14-20 inches of snow in most of Massachusetts. Parts of the South Shore and Cape Cod and the Islands are expected to have lesser amounts.
