Man Found Sleeping on Floor of Arlington Dunkin Donuts: Police
The man told police he thought the store was open, and he was just waiting for a cup of coffee.
ARLINGTON, MA — A homeless man was arrested early Sunday morning for breaking and entering into the Dunkin Donuts on Broadway after an employee found him sleeping in the store, according to police reports.
Stephen C. Duffey, 60, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony and being a fugitive from justice on a court warrant. According to the police reports, a frightened employee called police and said that Duffey had been inside the store before she had opened it.
Police say nothing in the Dunkin Donuts had been damaged or taken.

Upon receiving a call that someone had been inside the store at approximately 4:43 a.m., officers found Duffey sitting in the far corner of the store asleep, according to the police report. Officers awoke Duffey, who told police that he thought the store was open and he was just waiting for a cup of coffee. He further stated that the door was unlocked, lights were on and music was playing, police say.
Officers observed music to be playing, but no lights on. Police say that an odor of alcohol was emanating from Duffey's person.

The employee told police that she clearly saw Duffey sleeping in the corner when she arrived in the store, and that it was possible he entered when the delivery man opened the doors and that he stayed in the corner of the store until it opened.
Upon his arrest, police learned that Duffey had a warrant for his arrest which was issued on Jan. 12 for a third OUI offense, operation of a vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash.
