Mystic River Watershed Association Honors Arlington’s Maria Simoneau

The Annual Meeting of the Mystic River Watershed Association was held on Thursday, October 24, at Winchester Town Hall.  As part of the event, the Association awarded Arlington resident Maria Simoneau the Ripple Award of dedication and appreciation. The award highlights the work of an individual that impacts the larger community.

Maria’s broad involvement with the Mystic River Watershed Association was noted, including serving as a water quality monitor since 2007, four years of service on the Board of Directors, and assisting with marketing, communications and outreach efforts.  Maria is also involved with Sustainable Arlington and is an active grassroots community activist.  “Maria is an exceptional example of an engaged community member who is dedicated to a healthier community - we’re lucky to have her on our team!” stated Beth MacBlane, Outreach Coordinator of the Mystic River Watershed Association.

The Mystic River Watershed Association was founded in 1972 and has largely functioned as a volunteer-run organization, mobilizing activists on a project-by-project basis.  Its mission is to protect and restore the Mystic River, its tributaries and watershed lands for the benefit of present and future generations and to celebrate the value, importance and great beauty of these natural resources which play a vital role in the many cities and towns the watershed includes.
