The following statement was issued by the Town of Arlington:
Snow Operations Update, Mass. Ave.
Public Works continues snow clean up operations around Arlington with a focus on main roads and routes to schools and is utilizing equipment and personnel support provided by Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). Public Works will perform overnight snow removal operations on Mass. Ave. (between Jason and Brattle streets) February 12, starting at 10 p.m. No parking signs will be posted in the operational areas and cars parked in these areas during these times will be subject to ticketing and towing.
Ongoing Storm Monitoring & Snow Removal Planning
Public safety and public works officials are monitoring forecasts of an upcoming storm this late Saturday into Monday. As predictions become more refined, the Town will evaluate a potential widening effort in prioritized neighborhoods. This prioritization will be guided by public safety and any activity will be posted online at arlingtonma.gov and via Town Notices (email). Plans for snow storage are ongoing. St. Camillus has offered space for storing snow on church property. The Town is grateful for this offer and it will take the Town a few days to utilize this space as part of the Town’s ongoing snow clean up operations.
Residential Parking Ban Remains in Effect
For public safety reasons a Town-wide residential parking ban remains in effect until further notice. At this time parking is only allowed on Mass. Ave., Broadway, and Mystic St. (from Mass. Ave. to Summer St.). Map can be viewed here.
When a parking ban is in place, no parking on all streets, permitted spots, and municipal parking lots, except Russell Common lot. It is crucial to keep cars off the streets during this time to allow the Town to clear the roads. Any vehicles parked on the streets during these hours will be subject to ticketing and towing. Parking at the Russell Common Parking lot is on a first come first served basis. Cars parked here during the emergency must be moved four hours after the ban has been lifted. DPW has requested that residents park their cars closest to the Arlington Catholic side of the lot. Please see map here.
Exercise Caution
With massive amounts of snow piled around roadways, public safety officials continue to warn pedestrians and drivers to be careful when traveling, especially around corners where visibility is difficult.
Additional Safety Tips
- Clear exhaust vents from direct vent gas furnace systems to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Never run an automobile until exhaust pipe has been cleared of snow.
- Please check in with your neighbors who may need extra assistance.
- With the threat of more snow in the coming days, be alert for large accumulating snow build-up or snowdrifts on your roofs and take appropriate action. Read roof safety tips provided by MEMA here.
