Attleboro Falls to Stoughton in League Opener

The Attleboro High girls basketball team opened its Hockomock League schedule at Stoughton on Friday and came away at the short end of a 57-47 score. It was a closely fought contest, with Stoughton leading by one point after the first eight minutes of play and by four points at halftime, just after Stoughton's McKenzie McGrath put up a half-court shot at the buzzer that banked off the backboard and ripped through the net.

Stoughton's 6-feet-2-inch Nicole Daniels (16 points) and McGrath (20 points) proved to be the inside-outside punch that the Black Knights needed for the victory. Attleboro head coach Missy Traversi couldn't have asked for more from Bri LaPlume, who had the assignment of defending Daniels.

LaPlume finished the night with 11 points and six boards. Beth Clifton played hard at both ends of the court as well, but got into foul trouble and had to sit early in the fourth quarter. Clifton had six points and three steals. Attleboro's Bri Hockwarter led the blue in scoring with 19 points, hitting 5-11 from beyond the arc. 

AHS now stands at 2-1

Attleboro's junior varsity squad fell short 34-23, and that team also has a 2-1 record. The freshman team earned its second victory in as many starts with a 43-29 win. Madison Turner led the team with 13 points and Rose Davies scored 12 points. 

After a three-game road trip, the Blue Bombardiers will entertain Mansfield on Tuesday in Attleboro's home opener of the season.
