It was rough tough game, without benefit of many whistles, at both ends of the court. Durfee’s Heidleberg put the Hilltoppers on top first with a 3 but Attleboro’s Kim Runey followed with 3 successive scores from behind the arc. Beth Clifton’s put back and an Emily Houle basket gave the Bombardiers a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Kerri Beland increased the lead with her first basket in the game, to open the second quarter. A Durfee 3 knotted the score and a Camara basket put the Hilltoppers out in front, 17-15. Bri LaPlume tied the score on 2 free throws and back to back 3’s by Beland gave Attleboro a 6 point advantage. Baskets by Houle and Clifton put the Bombardiers in front, 27-21. With the half drawing to a close an Attleboro player was slammed to the floor by a Durfee defender. There was no whistle by the officiating crew, which drew the ire of Coach Missy Traversi. This resulted in a technical on the Bombardier coach. Runey’s 4th 3 of the half gave Attleboro a 30-21 lead, as the quarter ended.
As the third stanza began Durfee put up a quick 2 but that was answered by Attleboro as Beland and Clifton scored the next 6 points, giving the Bombardiers a 36-25 advantage. The Hilltoppers scored the next 8 points, before Sarah Deyo hit on 1 of 2 free throws and followed with a hard fought basket inside. Aa 3 basket by Durfee’s Jackson ended the third 8 minutes of play with the score deadlocked at 39 all.
