Centurions Team Filled With Stars

Grace Baptist Christian Academy places seven on all-star team

couldn't pull off and undefeated season by winning the championship game last weekend. However, they did receive some consolation.

The Centurions boys' soccer team had seven players named to the all-star teams chosen by coaches in the Massachusetts Association of Christian Schools (MACS). Five athletes were selected for the first team and two of the players made the second team's squad.

The five players chosen for the first team include senior Eldon Barrett and juniors Tyler McGee, ChrisRedlund and A.J. Russell and freshman Lee Nichols. Nichols led the league with 16 goals during the season. The two players who earned 2nd-team honors were sophomores Christian Kunsch and freshman Alex Rodrigues.

Grace Baptist exceeded expectations this season. Entering the championship game last weekend, their record stood at 13-0-1. Despite the heartbreaking loss, the Centurions finished their season at 13-1-1. They were able to have a successful season despite having only one senior.

Jeff Nichols, Centurions head coach, was very pleased with the team's season. "We had a very good season, our best season as far as wins and losses," he said, "I'm looking forward to next year because we only lose one player due to graduation."

According to the coach, Russell was a huge asset to the team. "He was my best all around player," Russell said. "He brought leadership and led the team in assists." The Centurions head boss spoke highly of Barrett. "He's our strongest defender and brings leadership to our defense."

McGee had never played keeper before this year, but did an excellent job learning the position, according to Nichols.

The biggest improvement came from Kunsch who had a great year and Rodrigues' natural speed and ability helped the team, said the coach.

What did he have to say about his son, who led the league in goals scored? "He's an accurate shooter and gets to the right position on the field."
