VIDEO: D-R/Seekonk Hockey Team Loses at Taunton
Hobbled by many key injuries, the Falcons lost to the Tigers 4-2 in Taunton.
Hockey player Dylon Swift had to pick up the slack with his linemate and captain Adam Ferreira on the shelf - and step up he did. Swift scored three minutes into the game to put the Falcons on top by a goal. Unfortunately for D-R/Seekonk, AJ Swartz scored eight seconds later, knotting things up again.
Dana Blakely picked up the scoring after the first period ended quietly and the second started the same way. Blakely's goal put Taunton up 2-1 and an injury ridden Falcons team up against a wall.
Swift answered the bell again, on a feed from Casey Escobar, just seconds after Taunton took the lead. The Falcons found themselves level once again with a talented team while they were decimated with injuries.

"It was the best game all season for what we were dealt," said head coach Ryan Cordeiro of a courageous performance by his team. "To be tied with five minutes left with a team that's state-bound, I'm proud."
But Nolan Blakely would render the Falcon performance nothing more than courageous. He netted a goal from the blue line that fooled Tyler Lanciaux, who had turned in an exemplary performance in place of Jake Roy, who is injured and may not return this season.

"It was his second varsity game, and he played great. He had 20 or more saves, lots of nice saves," said Jake Roy of his understudy. Roy was visibly impressed on the bench during the game as he watched Lanciaux and critiqued his play.
"Really, one goal was on him," said Cordeiro of his goalie, adding, "He played really well. He gave us a chance to win."
Blakely's goal came with five minutes left in the game, and the Falcons did have some opportunities to equalize again. Dylon Swift nearly found the net a third time with just over a minute left in the game.
When there was one minute left, Cordeiro called Lanciaux to the bench for an extra skater, and Kenny Mather buried an empty netter to seal the game for good.
