A: I think I have a unique perspective and sense of humor. I’m a people person and I’m environmentally conscious and the items I sell reflect that. I sell a lot of locally made and humorous items, and a lot of things made from recycled objects. I try to connect with all of my customers in some way.

Q: At what moment did you decide to open a business?

A: I can remember the exact moment. I was waiting tables one slow fall night and the owner had myself and two other waitresses doing some cleaning. One of the waitresses was on the floor, cleaning under a shelf. I said, “I can’t believe we’re doing this.” She replied, “I’ve been waitressing for twenty years.” I was 28 at the time and realized that that could be me. I opened within two months.

Q: What inspired you?

A: I guess my mother since she owns her own business.

Q: Describe the biggest challenge of owning a business in the town of Barnstable?

A: Hmm, that’s tough. There are problems educating the public that there are places to shop other than the mall, but I think that’s true for Main Street businesses everywhere. My well documented problems with the regulatory people at the town building regarding my sign has been the most stressful thing I’ve had to deal with in the 17 years I’ve been in business.

Q: Describe the best thing about owning a business in the town of Barnstable?

A: The support I have gotten from the residents who appreciate my shop and think of me when they need to buy a gift.

Q: What is one thing you would never change about your business?

A: I‘ll never sell out or follow a trend. I like everything I sell.

Q: What is your business’ greatest asset?

A: The carefully picked items we carry.

Q: What is your favorite spot in town?

A: My favorite spot in town is Aselton Park in the summer. I walk there with my daughter twice a week for the free concerts. I love to sit and listen to great music and watch her run around and dance. The harbor is a wonderful back drop to the whole scene.

Q: What’s one thing the community should know about you?

A: I live in Hyannis and  am invested in the community here. I’m an advocate for small business and try to shop and eat in locally owned businesses. I always recommend locally owned businesses to my customers when they’re looking for a good place to eat or are looking for something that I don’t have. I will pretty much donate to any local fund raiser when asked, whether it be for a school or to help a family.
