Falmouth Police Arrest 'Armed Career Criminal'
Falmouth police said convicted felon Jarrod Alves, of New Bedford, was found with a stolen gun and heroin.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police this week arrested an "armed career criminal" found with a stolen gun, heroin, marijuana and cash during a routine traffic stop. Jarrod Alves, 28, of New Bedford, was charged with a host of crimes and held on bail pending an arraignment. Police said Alves has a long rap sheet and will be charged under the "armed career criminal" statute.

Police said an officer stop a 34-year-old woman for speeding as she drove a 2007 Chrysler sedan Monday at about 9:45 p.m.

"During the traffic stop the officer saw a rear passenger appear to conceal a weapon or contraband under the driver’s seat," police said in a statement. "A search of the vehicle by officers and a (Barnstable County Sheriff's) police canine was conducted."
Police said they found a .40-caliber Glock hangun stolen from Jacksonville, Florida in the vehicle, along with heroin, marijuana and $300 belonging to Alves. He was charged with heroin possession, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, receiving a stolen gun, marijuana possession with intent to distribute and other gun-related crimes.

The driver was summonsed for drug possession.
