Barnstable Recovering From Blizzard Devastation

The town, like many on Cape Cod, was devastated by power outages and other effects of the storm.

BARNSTABLE, MA — This town, like many others across the Cape, has been trying to recover from Monday's devastating blizzard – but now there are signs of progress.

Barnstable officials on Thursday afternoon said municipal offices will reopen to the public tomorrow, Feb. 27, at 8:30 a.m.

The offices and the town’s public schools have been shuttered since a major winter storm pummeled Barnstable with 2 feet of snow and hurricane-force winds.

On Thursday morning, town officials said only a “small percentage of roads remain impassable due to downed power lines and related tree damage.”

Eversource, the utility company for Barnstable and much of the Cape, reported late Thursday that 5,500 local customers were still without electricity – 18 percent of the total in the town. That percentage is far down from the number reported on Wednesday.
