Cape Cod Koi Pond Poisoned With Soap, Police Investigating

A residential koi pond was poisoned with soap or detergent over the weekend, leading to the death of at least two fish, police said.

YARMOUTH, MA — Yarmouth police have opened an investigation after a residential koi pond was poisoned over the weekend, killing at least two fish.

Yarmouth officers responded to an address on Pleasant Street on Sunday after the homeowner reported that either soap or detergent had been dumped in their koi pond.

The officer found a large number of soapy bubbles still in the koi pond at the scene while the homeowner was actively trying to save the koi fish. However, two of the fish had already died.

It's been determined by police that the incident took place sometime between 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning.
