
The Cape Cod Maritime Museum invites you and your families to sample our Making Waves exhibit-themed programs on the week of April 16-20. These are drop-in programs from 11am-3pm each day, designed to entertain children aged 5-12, and are FREE with admission. Younger siblings are encouraged to enjoy the museum programs with help from parents!
‘Knot’-ical Crafts

Monkey’s Fist, Double Half Hitch, Ocean Plait, Turk’s Head, & Granny are all names of practical knots used for decorative crafts. Practice creating these common knots, then make sailor’s bracelets, trivets, or dog toys from what you’ve learned!
Lego Boat Building Contest

Tuesday, April 17th
Work in teams, with your family or individually to design a boat, using LEGO building materials. There will be three age designated categories for the competition for top design. A group of experienced and expert boat builders and designers from the Cook Boat Shop will judge the contest. The prize is a CCMM family membership, and your design to keep! (This program is not in affiliation with LEGO)

NEW PROGRAM! Learn about all the different fish species caught in weirs on Cape Cod. Can you identify them? Make artistic fish rubbings with synthetic squid, black sea bass, butterfish, mackerel, horseshoe crabs & more!
Cape Cod Pirate & Shipwreck Story Time
Thursday, April 19th
Stories of the sea—of shipwrecks & pirates around Cape Cod—will be read by museum director and television & theater actress Janet Constable Preston. Stories will be read one every 30 minutes, starting at 11am until 3pm. Audience can color story illustrations while they are being read too!

Signal Flag Fun

Have you ever seen colorful flags flying on sailboats? These are International Signal Flags, which represent letters, numbers & symbols and are flown on ships as a way of communicating with other boats. Learn how to rig up signal flags on a mast. Then figure out the letters of your name with signal flag symbols and create your own flags.
