Stranded Sea Turtle Rescued On Cape Cod [WATCH]

Beachgoers and animal rescuers helped load the turtle onto a cart so it could receive treatment.

EASTHAM, MA – Beachgoers and animal rescuers helped save a leatherback sea turtle that washed ashore on Cape Cod Sunday. The crowd loaded the 300-pound animal onto a cart at First Encounter Beach in Eastham so it could receive treatment at the animal hospital.

A spokesman for the New England Aquarium told the Boston Globe the turtle was in "near-death" condition when it arrived at the aquarium's Quincy Animal Care Center. As of Monday morning, the turtle was still alive.

This is the second time this month a leatherback sea turtle has washed up on Cape Cod; a 420-pound turtle died after it was found on a Brewster beach Oct. 31, according to the Globe.
