Belmont World Film and Belmont Against Racism team up to present a special screening of HE NAMED ME MALALA, 11/16, 7 PM at the Studio Cinema

Belmont World Film and Belmont Against Racism present the acclaimed documentary He Named Me Malala on Monday, November 16, at 7:00 PM at the Studio Cinema in Belmont (376 Trapelo Road). Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman) provides an inside glimpse into the extraordinary life of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai--who at age 15 was targeted by the Taliban, along wither father, for advocating for girls’ education—from her close relationship with her father who inspired her love for education, to her impassioned speeches at the UN, to her everyday life with her parents and brothers.. The severe gunshot would she received when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now a leading campaigner for girls’ education globally as co-founder of the Malala Fund.

Dr. Adil Najam, the inaugural dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and Professor of International Relations and of Earth and Environment, will lead a discussion after the film. Earlier he served as Vice Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Lahore, Pakistan (2011-13) and Director of the Boston University Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future (2007-11). Professor Najam has also taught at MIT and at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. His research focuses on issues of global public policy, especially those related to global climate change, South Asia, Muslim countries, environment and development, and human development.
