Store Owner Helps Out Gunshot Victim

At 2:30 a.m., Sunday, in Revere, a voice shouted out “Help me, I’m shot.” Belmont shop owner John Pompey heard the shouts from his home and ran into the street. He found William Clarke, a taxi driver, staggering down the street with blood on his shirt. Pompey took Clarke to his apartment and administered first aid as had done so often in Vietnam.

Smoking regulations by fall
Smoke free public working places and restaurants are anticipated by the fall, the Board of Health announced. Adequately ventilated and separate designated smoking areas would be set up.

A life of trial and triumph
Ninety-six-year-old Dirk Struik works from his Belmont home on Glendale Road where he has lived since 1944. He was born in the Netherlands, had a brilliant career at MIT and several Latin American Universities. He was victimized during the McCarthy Communist witch hunt in the 1950s. Currently he writes book reviews for mathematical journals and lectures at universities.

Alexander has a love for education
Deborah Alexander will soon take on the position of principal of the Chenery Middle School from Murph Shapiro, long time principal of the Chenery. During the interview she said that she has had a lifelong interest in education, and that her interest had never wavered. She is a graduate of Bates College in Maine. She taught for many years then returned to school to earn her principal’s license.
