Zombie Receives a Bullet and Stab Proof Vest

The MBTA Transit Police Department recently announced that Zombie, a K9 dog, has been awarded a bullet-and-stab proof vest, from Vested Interest in K9s Inc. and Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Beverly. The annual charity dog wash raised $818. Each vest costs $950.

Zombie is a two-year-old German Sheppard assigned to MBTA Transit Police Officer Brian Burt. Officer Burt and Zombie are certified as both a police service dog and narcotic detection team.

They are assigned to the Special Operations Section, K-9 Unit. Officer Burt and Zombie have police jurisdiction in 178 cities and towns throughout Massachusetts. Officer Burt. along with his canine partner, primary focus on patrolling and protecting MBTA riders and MBTA property.

Canine Zombie was purchased from Mid-Michigan Kennels, and then trained by the MBTA in Massachusetts.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.
