10,000 New Jobs In Massachusetts: Here's Where

Looking for work? Maybe you just need a change of scenery? Here are some of the thousands of jobs that are opening up in Mass.

BOSTON, MA — State labor officials say Massachusetts added an estimated 10,000 jobs in June while the unemployment rate crept up to 4.3 percent. Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Rosalin Acosta said Thursday the first six months of 2017 brought a record increase in the total labor force in Massachusetts, signaling a growing state economy.

The unemployment rate of 4.3 percent was up from 4.2 percent in May. It's been rising steadily this year after falling below 3 percent in late 2016. Analysts say the uptick is tied to the increase in the labor force as more people feel encouraged to seek work.

In addition to the preliminary estimates of 10,000 jobs gained in June, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics says Massachusetts has added nearly 66,000 jobs over the past 12 months.

Target

Targets are popping up everywhere, including small-format locations like the one recently announced for Medford and the one that just opened in Stoneham. The Medford location was featured in one of the most-liked Patch stories of June on Facebook. That one is bringing at least "several dozen" jobs with it. The Target website doesn't seem to be hiring for the Medford store just yet, but there are dozens of positions available around the city and beyond for the grocery team, Starbucks team, electronics team, cart attendant, cashier, and more.

General Electric

One of the largest companies in the country is bringing it's headquarters here, not far from where the new Amazon offices are going. GE said it will employ 800 in Boston by 2018, only 200 of which will be corporate-level employees. If you search for GE jobs around Boston on Zip Recruiter, you get "240+ results." The GE site shows 157 positions currently available in Massachusetts.

Hooters

A Dedham location just opened over the weekend. It's rocky arrival wasn't without controversy, but it's been open for about a week now. The profile picture on the Facebook page for the new location is a 'Now Hiring' sign, and you can apply for positions in other locations here.
