School of Fashion Design

Calling all well-dressed and well-read friends! Join us at the School of Fashion Design for a presentation and conversation with local author and researcher Anne Marie Murphy as we celebrate the release of her latest book, A Proper Fit: Women at Work in a City of Corsets. Drawing on decades of experience as a researcher and small business owner, Murphy uncovers the stories of the women entrepreneurs and workers who helped shape Worcester MA into a center of corset manufacturing. Join us and discover how fashion, business, and women's history intersect.
What people are saying about A Proper Fit: Women at Work in a City of Corsets:"Murphy’s exhaustive research feels rollicking and joyful. She tells the stories of enterprising women we would have loved to meet for drinks after work. This book is historical yet fresh, and even a little dishy. Following these women who found their fortunes in garments that were meant to control and restrain them is a fist-pumping adventure." - Kathleen Doyle, Costume Designer

Jay Calderin, founder of Boston Fashion Week, often remarks that "Boston fashion is smart." The School of Fashion Design is proud to participate in this year's Boston Fashion Week with a nod to Jay's homage to important fashion literature. We look forward to welcoming our smart and sartorial guests for refreshments and conversation in our fashion reference library. Copies of A Proper Fit: Women at Work in a City of Corsets will be available for purchase.

The Maso Studio At the Huntington Theatre

Across generations, women are (disproportionately) navigating increasing demands of caregiving: raising children, supporting aging parents, sustaining families, and contributing meaningfully at work. Yet the modern workplace has not kept pace. The result? A growing care gap - an invisible but powerful force shaping burnout, retention, leadership dynamics, and inequity in today’s society.
This one-day summit brings together women leaders across generations to explore:

How caregiving realities and mindsets are shifting across generations

Where misunderstanding and tension show up

How leadership and systems must evolve

What practical, realistic actions leaders can take right now

Through guided experiences, facilitated dialogue, and cross-generational exchange, participants will move beyond surface-level conversation into shared understanding, strategic insight, and concrete action. This summit is a transformational leadership experience designed to change how you lead.

Massachusetts State House

As America’s 250th anniversary celebrations continue, the State Library of Massachusetts will welcome celebrated author and historian Byron Williams as part of its monthly Author Talks series. Williams will discuss his latest book, Liberty and Equality in America: Examining the Radical and Paradoxical Legacy of the Declaration of Independence. Guided by the notion of contradiction, Liberty and Equality in America examines the enduring tension between the ideals enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and the paradoxes that have shaped the American experiment. Drawing on his work as a historian, author and educator, Williams offers a timely perspective on the Declaration’s promises of liberty and equality and the complicated history of those ideals in practice. The program will feature a presentation from Williams, followed by an audience Q&A and an opportunity for attendees to purchase copies of his book and have them signed. As Massachusetts, and Boston in particular, reflects on its pivotal role in the American Revolution and the founding of the nation, Williams provides a compelling voice on the Declaration’s enduring legacy and the questions it continues to raise 250 years later. The event is free and open to the public. No tickets or registration are required. Please find more information on the website.
