Jabari Bird Arrested, Charged With Kidnapping, Assault

The Celtics guard was arrested late Friday night following an alleged domestic incident.

BOSTON, MA — Boston Celtics guard Jabari Bird was arrested late Friday night in Brighton after an alleged domestic incident. He faces charges of kidnapping, assault, and strangulation, Boston Police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Bird was being guarded by police at the hospital, where he was to be evaluated.

"We are aware of the incident involving Jabari Bird and are taking it very seriously," the Celtics said in a statement Saturday morning. "We are actively gathering information and will deserve further comment at this time."

No further information on Friday night's alleged incident was available.

The team made a significant commitment to the 24-year-old in July, signing him to a two-year deal worth $3 million to round out their roster. Bird spent much of last year with the Celtics' developmental team in Maine, but shined during this year's Summer League.
