Stone House Seeks Hikers for annual Wilderness Heals Event (Stone House)

Every summer, women from all over New England take part in Wilderness Heals, a pledge hike to help increase awareness and raise funds for the important work the Stone House does every day. The Stone House makes a difference in our community by caring for and protecting adult and child survivors of domestic abuse, and helping them rebuild safe, secure, independent lives of purpose and self-fulfillment.

“Typically each year 50 - 60 women hike the White Mountains of New Hampshire for 3three days as part of our Wilderness Heals event,” said Catherine Lawrie, Community Engagement Manager at the Stone House. “This year, even though Covid-19 restrictions have eased, we decided to hold a one-day event on August 21, 2011.”

Wilderness Heals 2021 will be an in-person day hike with an opening ceremony in the morning and a cookout that evening. Participants will be grouped into teams of up to 10, including a Team Leader.

Any woman who wants to meet the physical, emotional, and fundraising challenges of the hike is welcome to participate. This includes: seasoned hikers and new hikers, outdoor enthusiasts and newbies to nature, survivors of domestic violence or trauma and their supporters, and anyone seeking the opportunity to embark in adventure and camaraderie while raising money for an amazing cause. All in-person hikers will have a fundraising goal of $1500 with a minimum requirement of $1,000 per hiker. In addition, anyone is welcome to participate as a Virtual Hiker, with a fundraising goal of $500.
