Massachusetts 'Mall Rapist' Again Denied Parole

The serial rapist, now 75, "continued to engage in inappropriate sex acts while incarcerated," according to the parole board's decision.

A serial rapist serving 11 life sentences for numerous attacks on young women in the 1980s was denied parole for a fourth time.

Phillip Pizzo, 75, pleaded guilty in 1984 to aggravated rape, armed robbery while masked, armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

From August 1983 to January 1984, Pizzo abducted numerous women in their late teens to their early 20s from Boston-area shopping malls.

"Each incident occurred on a different date and involved a different victim, but all
were similar in nature," according to the Massachusetts Parole Board's decision to deny Pizzo parole for the fourth time.

"As each victim got into her automobile, Mr. Pizzo (who was wearing a ski mask) would open the car door and, while holding a knife to the victim's throat, push the victim over to the passenger's seat," per the board.

"He would put the ski mask over the victim's face and tie her hands behind her back," the board's decision said. "Mr. Pizzo would reassure each woman that he was not going to harm her, and that he just wanted their money. He would, in fact, take any money they had. Mr. Pizzo would then drive the victim's car to his vehicle, which was parked some distance away."

Pizzo then took the women to his Westford home.

During the ride to his home, Mr. Pizzo would talk to his victims and ask about their personal life, including questions about employment and relationship status," according to the board's decision. "Several of the victims were pinched in the breast and genital areas during the ride to Mr. Pizzo's home."

Pizzo parked in his attached garage and then brought the women into his house, where he "would generally force the women to drink liquor and then take them upstairs to the bedroom," the board's decision said.

"Mr. Pizzo would then remove the ski mask from the victim's face and then rape and sodomize his victims," according to the decision. "After raping the women, he would have them take a shower. Mr. Pizzo would then return the women to the shopping malls from where he had abducted them."

The Middlesex County and Essex County District Attorney's Offices both opposed Pizzo's release, the decision noted, also pointing out that Pizzo has "continued to engage in inappropriate sex acts while incarcerated."

"The Board concludes by unanimous decision that Phillip Pizzo has not demonstrated a level of rehabilitation that would make his release compatible with the welfare of society," the decision said.
