Woman Killed By Snowplow in Norwood Parking Lot Identified

The woman's husband was injured when the plow backed into them during Sunday's snowstorm, police said.

NORWOOD, MA — The woman killed when a snowplow backed into her and her husband in a Norwood parking lot during Sunday's snowstorm has been identified.

Noriko Rapley, 51, and her 47-year-old husband were walking through the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Norwood Central parking lot when the Ford F-350 backed into them about 2 p.m., MBTA police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in an email.

"Tragically the wife was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained," Sullivan said. "The husband survived but was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries."

The plow operator, a 33-year-old man, remained on the scene and was cooperative with police detectives, Sullivan said.

"This is an unimaginable, horrific incident," Sullivan said. "On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization we express our most sincere condolences to the victim’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
