Massachusetts Weather Forecast: MLK Weekend Sees Weather Whiplash

We were sitting pretty with midweek record highs. Now we've got the weekend chills.

This winter holiday weekend won't be wobbling between snow and rain, and it won't be threatening any wind chill factor record lows.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend will be colder than this week's sometimes balmy weather, but nothing too outrageous for mid-January. Still, going from midweek record highs to the 20s will always be a bummer. Weather whiplash.

Saturday

The weekend kicks off with the coldest day in at least the next 10, according to Weather.com. High temperatures may not crack 30 degrees, meaning Saturday night's Patriots playoff game against Houston will be a traditionally chilly one. It'll be mostly sunny with no chance of precipitation and little wind.

Sunday

The highs will be higher, up to 36, but the lows will be in the high teens. The good news is it's expected to be clear and sunny all day, with no precipitation. The wind picks up a little to 14 miles per hour in some parts.

Monday

It's not exactly BBQ weather, but you won't get too much closer in mid-January in New England. The high temperature will get up to 40 and it should stay above freezing all day, with a sunny sky, no rain, and mild winds.

Looking ahead

The weather will continue to get warmer until next weekend, when early forecasts are looking at already back-to-back 50 degree days. Bust out the grill!

There is one day with a legitimate chance of rain in the next 10 - Wednesday could see some steady rain with high temperatures close to 50.
