Heavily Armed PA Man Held on $50K After Bringing Gun To Shelter

The man allegedly had stored a loaded gun, 100 rounds of ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and a ski mask in a duffel bag at South Station.

BOSTON, MA — The Pennsylvania man with the revoked licence to carry who police arrested in Boston after he allegedly stored a loaded gun and with extra supplies in a dufflebag at South Station was held on $50,000 bail today at his arraignment in Boston on gun related charges.

The man allegedly tried to get into a shelter with a loaded gun on his hip and five large-capacity magazines, a Kevlar ballistic vest, nearly 100 rounds of ammunition, tactical style gloves, and a ski mask in a duffel bag.

A security guard at the St. Francis House homeless shelter on Boylston Street called police around noon Tuesday to report that a man, identified as Robert Goodson, 23, of Etna, PA., had just tried to enter the facility with a loaded gun in his waistband and a box of ammunition in a red duffel bag, police said.

Goodson showed his Pennsylvania licence to carry to the security guard, who snapped a photo of it and told the man guns weren't allowed in the shelter. When Boston police looked up the name they found Goodson did have a license to carry, but it was revoked just a week earlier.

Police said the security guard called back when Goodson returned about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, without the gun or the duffel bag.

Following an hours-long investigation involving transit police, officers found Goodson’s duffel bag at a baggage storage desk at the South Station bus terminal.

Inside they found a Glock 23 semi-automatic gun, five large-capacity magazines — three of which were fully loaded — nearly 100 rounds of ammunition, a black Kevlar ballistic vest, a black neoprene ski mask, and black leather tactical style gloves, police said.

Transit Police arrested Goodson Wednesday afternoon after tracking him down.
