Braintree Council Slated to Vote on $200k for Police Evidence Room

Tuesday's Town Council Meeting at Braintree Town Hall is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

BRAINTREE, MA — Town councilors are expected to consider a proposal for extra funding for the Braintree Police Department evidence room.

Tuesday night, the Braintree Town Council is scheduled to take up a request for supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year 2017 capital plan. Among the roughly $5.5 million in requests and capital projects is $200,000 for the police evidence room, according to town documents.

Last month, Interim Police Chief Paul Shastany told the councilors that the room is being moved to the lower level of the police station and funds would be requested to allow for the upgrade.

Earlier this year, an audit of the evidence room determined that nearly $408,000 along with thousands of pieces of evidence were unaccounted for. In early October, Sullivan announced that all but 12 of the 60 missing firearms have been found and about $140,000 in missing cash has been recovered. Sullivan said it is possible that some of the evidence may have been part of evidence room purges in 2009 and 2012.
