Braintree Man Faces Weapons Charges in Boston

A Braintree man faces weapons charges out of Boston following an early Wednesday morning arrest.

Gullit Gomes, 25, was arrested by Boston police and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked or suspended license, refusal to submit to a police officer, driving to endanger, and other driving violations, according to the Boston Police Department.

Early Wednesday morning, police in the area of 85 Southampton St. in Roxbury allegedly observed Gomes, who was known to the officers from previous incidents, enter a motor vehicle and drive towards the Massachusetts Avenue Connector, police said. Police tried to pull Gomes over after allegedly observing his vehicle commit a traffic violation, but the car drove away after police activated their emergency lights.

Police were able to locate the suspect a short time later walking near Columbia Road and Dorchester Avenue, where he was placed in custody without incident. About twenty minutes later, officers located the suspect's vehicle on Cottrell Street and recovered a loaded Ruger P95 handgun and a loaded Smith & Wesson GTG revolver.
