Braintree Mayor Joseph Sullivan Announces Preparations For Winter Weather

For snow removal in Braintree the town's neighborhoods will be broken into 27 neighborhood routes to ensure efficiency.

From The Town Of Braintree: As the first dusting of snow lay on the ground, Mayor Joseph C. Sullivan has announced that Braintree is prepared to face whatever the winter of 2016-17 has in store.

“This morning I met with DPW division heads, school department officials, BELD leadership and Public Safety personnel and we made our final preparations for the winter ahead” said Sullivan. “Planning for snow in New England is a process that occurs year round. Even on the hottest days of July we are looking ahead to the winter with the planning of routes, maintaining equipment, and ensuring that we have the personnel in place to deal with whatever winter throws at us.”

For snow removal in Braintree the town’s neighborhoods are broken into 27 neighborhood routes, not counting the equipment and personnel that plow and maintain main roads. In all, town plows will cover 130 miles of roads and 75 miles of pedestrian sidewalks during storms. This winter will also see the debut of three new sidewalk plows to help remove snow more efficiently.

The Mayor also addressed the town’s ability to pay for snow removal, “As in 2015 we are in a strong position to cover any and all snow removal costs we incur, a position which is envied by many municipalities. Some communities in our area are still paying down debt from snow removal during that terrible winter. Through our financial planning and strong reserves we were able to immediately pay for that winter clean-up and will be able to do so again if necessary” said Sullivan. Though he noted, “I think we all can agree that we don’t want a repeat of the Winter of 2015, once in a lifetime was enough!”
