The Braintree teen, identified as a 17-year-old minor, was charged with tagging, malicious destruction of property over $250, and trespassing. The other six suspects face similar charges, according to the Hull Police Department.

On July 15, at about 12:30 a.m., a police officer noticed a large amount of graffiti, which included vulgar; sexual; and racist language on the walls of the site, police said. A group of teenagers allegedly with spray paint on their hands and bottles of spray paint in their possession was located.

All seven were taken into custody and released on their personal recognizance, police said.

Graffiti at the fort has been an issue for the community. In June, the town and the Department of Conservation and Recreation funded the repainting of the fort to remove graffiti. Police have increased patrols in the area, resulting in several arrests.

“Fort Revere is part of American History, located right here in Hull. It is also hallowed ground for the French, and we will not tolerate its disrespect, destruction or desecration,” Hull Police Chief Robert Sawtelle said in a release. “This is a quality of life issue for our community, and we stand with our partners in the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Massachusetts State Police in the protection and conservation of Fort Revere.”

The group is scheduled to be arraigned in Hingham District Court next week.
