Man Sold Heroin Laced with Fentanyl at Weymouth Landing: Police

WEYMOUTH, MA - A Brockton man was arrested after dealing heroin that was potentially laced with Fentanyl, police said.
Rui A. Afonseca, Jr., 21, was arrested and charged with dIstributing heroin, distributing Fentanyl, conspiracy to violate the drug laws, and a drug violation near a school, according to the Weymouth Police Department.

At 11 a.m. Thursday, police in Weymouth observed what they believed to a be a drug deal at the Weymouth Landing between a known drug user and a male operating a Nissan Maxima. A short time later detectives approached the buyer and recovered a bag of heroin that she admitted buying from the male in the Maxima. The Maxima was stopped on Main Street and the operator, Afonseca, was placed under arrest, police said,
Detectives recovered over $1,000 in cash. It was later determined that the heroin recovered may have been laced with Fentanyl.

Police say that several cases they have worked on in the past have involved heroin laced with Fentanyl.
